Saniflo Repair Prices

We no longer take in Saniflo units for repair. We spent years stripping and rebuilding these machines and what we learned is that most of them fail on one of three parts, all of which you can fit yourself with basic tools.

This page is what those parts cost and how to work out which one you need before you spend anything.

A microswitch and a membrane together comes to £36.98. Add the capacitor and you are at £56.97, which replaces the entire switching and starting side of the machine. Set against what a new macerator costs, it is worth an hour of your time to find out which one has gone before you write the unit off.

Working Out Which Part Has Failed

It runs on and will not switch off

The membrane has almost certainly shrunk or hardened. It sits under the plastic paddle that pushes the microswitch, once it stiffens with scale the switch never releases. Heavy bleach use is the usual cause. If the machine has done a few years, change the microswitch at the same time while you have it apart, otherwise you will have the whole thing in pieces again a month later.

It hums or buzzes but does not turn

Check the macerator blade turns freely by hand first. If it does, the capacitor has gone. They drift out of tolerance with age and a weak one will not start the motor. If the blade is jammed solid, clear the obstruction before you buy anything.

It starts on its own, sometimes at night

Faulty microswitch or a distorted membrane. Rule out a dripping tap or an overflowing cistern first, since water trickling in will set the machine off exactly the same way and no part will fix that.

It cycles in short bursts

The non return valve is leaking back. On newer machines the non return valve pulls out from the top after undoing the jubilee clip. On older ones it sits inside and the unit has to come out.

It trips the electrics

This one is bad news. Water has got into the motor windings. The motor is not a repairable part and no amount of switches or membranes will help. The unit is scrap.

When It Is Not Worth Repairing

We would rather tell you to stop spending than sell you three parts that will not fix it.

If it trips the breaker, the motor has failed and the machine is finished
If the blade turns freely, a new capacitor is fitted and it still will not start, the motor has failed
If the body is cracked or the outlet spigot has perished right through, parts will not save it

Do not remove the dielectric oil from a Saniflo motor. It needs it to run. There is nothing inside the motor to repair and nothing to top it up with.

Before You Order

Parts are model specific. A Sanivite takes an 8uF capacitor, not the 10uF that most of the range uses and fitting the wrong one will leave you with a machine that starts weakly or not at all. Check the model plate on the unit rather than guessing from the shape.

Order Parts

A top tip worth the trouble. Once the parts are fitted, set the machine up outside on an RCD adapter and fill it with water before you plumb it back in. Point the outlet into a drain or a bucket and let it run. If something is not seated right you will find out there rather than under the bathroom floor.
